In case people are wondering why I’m posting a Canadian streaming service to Oppo, here’s why: Shomi distributes Amazon Prime’s original content videos here in Canada, shutting down just in time for The Grand Tour to launch.

I guess we’re back to other means .

Amazon Prime Canada is basically just the free shipping component of US Prime.

I wouldn’t feel too bad for them, they’re Rogers. It was started to try to force Netflix out along with Bell’s Crave. When it started they forced you to have a cable subscription, same for Crave.

Maybe after they shutdown, Amazon might launch the real Prime with everything.

Would not be suprised if this means Amazon Prime video streaming is about to start up in Canada. In any case anything that results in zombie Ted Rogers taking a 100 million loss is a win for Canada.

I heard this on the radio today - I forgot it existed.

I want these online services so I don’t need to have cable - if cable is a requirement then the service is DOA for me (and for a lot of other people, it seems).

Also, as others have said, it would be nice to see Prime have the same features as the US. Regardless, I’m going to watch the Grand Tour by some other means.

If that’s true I might actually reinstate my Prime subscription. Only used the trial during the last Prime Day.

They got rid of that requirement a while back, Crave no longer requires a Bell subscription and neither did Shomi. But their original intent was clear: force people to stay on their TV services, and this service acted as an online streaming extension to try to get rid of Netflix. Once they realized it wasn’t working and forced to compete, this is where we stand today.

Ha yeah right now I just start a trial every year right before Christmas, and immediately cancel as soon as I’m done my shopping.
